Norton 360 creates two System Tray icons

  • And this is a consistent occurrence since I installed it this afternoon (I've had to restart several times for related and unrelated software updates). In the Task Manager, I can see two instances of "Symantec Service Framework" (ccsvchst.exe *32), one under user name "SYSTEM" and one under my own user name. Previously, I used AVG, and it followed the same practice of creating an instance for each user, but still only one System Tray icon.

  • Is it running two separate instances? (aka you can close one and the other continues to work fine)

  • Service host is behaving as it should. Though you shouldn't have two on the task bar. Norton does a self check to make sure it boots with the PC, if it does not see itself fully loaded it starts another.

Things that might cause this are usually a defragmented hard drive loading it to slowly, or low system RAM causing longer than expected load times.

It doesn't provide a "Close" or "Exit" option in the right-click menu.
